In March of 2006, Jessica Dougherty launched Funky Finds. She started the blog at the suggestion of friends who were excited to receive the "funky" and cool "finds" she regularly emailed to them. Jessica was raised in an environment that encouraged creativity, so the direction of Funky Finds began to focus on the work of independent artists, crafters & designers.
After spending lots of time promoting artisans online, Funky Finds (Jessica and Joe) began attending & sponsoring more events. Taking note of sellers' complaints about existing online marketplaces, they developed The Shops @ Funky Finds. The Shops is an online marketplace that aims to give artisans more time to create & less time stuck behind the computer. The Shops @ Funky Finds is an easy to use venue for both sellers & buyers.
Noticing that all the local indie art & craft shows are held in Dallas, Jessica & Joe decided to produce their own event in Tarrant County. Their goal is to continue building Funky Finds so that they can further promote all the funky artists, crafters & designers discovered along their journey. The first Funky Finds Spring Fling took place in Fort Worth, Texas, on April 25, 2009.
The event, produced by Jessica & Joe Dougherty of Funky Finds, featured the work of over 120 artists, crafters & designers from Texas and Oklahoma. With over 2,500 attendees, the show was billed a success! The charitable raffle raised over $900 for the North Texas Humane Society, Tarrant Area Food Bank and Aflac Cancer Center. |
